Launching only in September, we're not surprised Zingiber Swimwear is turning heads and making a name for itself around the globe! Zingiber Swimwear is dedicated to the confident edgy woman who wants to make a statement , while still maintaining an element of sophistication.
You always have to go with your gut instinct and always visualise and plan what you want for the future of your label and just keeping striving forward.
Nicola Spicer, the designer behind Zingiber Swimwear always knew she would be doing something creative with her life and thats exactly how her life has panned out so far. In 2012 she was looking for lingerie and the idea just came to her and conveniently Nicola does have a background in design which she attended university for so I guess it was just destined to be.
Zingiber have had a lot of people reach out to borrow swimwear for various shoots. The main shoots the label has been featured in are Institution Magazine, Ocean Road Magazine and Russh Magazine took their swimwear to Barbados to shoot for their summer edition. To add onto this extensive list of amazing magazines the Sydney Fashion Blogger just posted a photo up on her Instagram wearing our swimwear, plus they have a few big names yet to come!

Who was behind your campaign?
Model: Kenyah Hura (Viviens Models), Photographer: Stefan Gosatti, Videographer: Rhys Wolf, Hair/MU: Khin
How did you figure out your labels name?
Zingiber is the Latin word for ginger. My surname is Spicer. Ginger is a spice...
What is your latest collection called and what was the inspiration behind your designs?
'Collection El Niño' is a Spanish term associating with the warm water temperatures that occur off the coast of South America. This ties in well with our theme, as our prints are designed in-house by myself and are all inspired by South American/Mexican traditional art works.
We've recently seen quite a few runway shots of models in your swimwear, could you give us a rundown on what Zingiber has been doing in terms of runway shows?
This year we have 8 shows lined up, some are still yet to come, these include...
QT Fashion Week and Awards (Gold Coast) where we won Best Up and Coming Swimwear Designer 2014, Fashion Precinct Teneriffe Festival (Brisbane), PR in Fashion (Perth), Undress Runways (Brisbane), New York Fashion Week International Emerging Designer Show (NYC), Telstra Perth Fashion Festival Swim Series (Perth), Limes Melbourne Cup Veuve Clicquout Event (Brisbane) and lastly the Gold Coast Swim Fashion Festival (Gold Coast).
We know it takes a lot of hard work and effort to create beautiful designs and pieces, how did you manage to do this? Do you do anything else other than a designer?
I worked in the mining industry to fund my label at the beginning stages, a lot of drive and focus was put in to achieve these goals. At the moment I am just traveling around Australia promoting and having meetings etc.
What does the future hold for Zingiber? What do you plan to achieve in the near future or next coming years?
At the moment we are starting to plan for next year and are aiming for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. We have a lot planned and I cannot wait to show everyone our future designs! So all keep tuned!
Do you have a quote or motto you live by that sums up your hard work, work ethic or label?
I have a belief system… Being surrounded by like minded people is very important. We also want to remain Australian made as it is important for us to operate in an ethical way, which I believe is becoming more sought after and recognised in the fashion world.
We saw you now have a stockist located in Fremantle where they will sell your designs, do you plan on getting more stockists on board to hold your designs not only in W.A but Australia or even around the globe?
We are closing some deals with stockists in Victoria. We have very limited stock this year, so we will also be promoting our online store, as we have flexible return policy, as we understand purshasing online can be risky, so we have made it very flexible for our clients to return goods. Visit WWW.ZINGIBER.COM.AU and we have free shipping worldwide.
Was there a reason behind choosing the look of your model? We love her look, very unique and different from a lot of the Swimwear models we see in today's society.
With Zingiber we always strive to bring culture into the Australian market, so we chose Kenyah as she has an exotic look that fitted well with our story of South America/Mexico.
How are you finding the industry so far?
The industry is very competitive and challenging, it is a struggle to get to the top for all emerging designers, however I think you just have to remain focused on your label and not think about it, just take one day at a time.
Have you faced any difficulties or challenges yet?
We sure have! You can't always trust everyone, you get that though and because you are new in the industry you have to be wary about who you associate your label with. Also, just minor hiccups with the manufacturing process and garments going missing in the post etc... minor stresses that will always happen.
